Psychological flexibility is built through practice. Here are practical ACT techniques you can weave into your everyday life to build resilience and live more fully.

Quick Daily Techniques

1. Name the Story

When caught in worried thoughts, name them: "Ah, there's the 'I'm not good enough' story again." Naming creates distance and reminds you these are familiar patterns, not new truths.

2. Drop Anchor

When emotions are overwhelming: Acknowledge what you're feeling, Connect with your body (feet on floor, hands on thighs), Engage with the world around you (look, listen, notice). This grounds you in the present.

3. Values Check-In

At the end of each day, ask: "What's one thing I did today that aligned with my values?" Celebrate it—even small toward moves count.

4. Expansion Breathing

When facing discomfort, breathe into it rather than away from it. Imagine making room for the feeling in your body. "I can make space for this."

5. Notice, Notice

Practice using "I notice..." statements. "I notice I'm feeling anxious. I notice I'm having the thought that I'll fail." This creates observer perspective.

6. Toward Moves Tracker

Each week, choose one small toward move—one action aligned with values that you've been avoiding. Do it, regardless of how you feel. Notice what happens.

Building Your Practice

Start with one technique that resonates. Practice it consistently for a week before adding another. Psychological flexibility builds gradually—it's about progress, not perfection.
