  • Radical Acceptance – Fully accepting reality

The Research: Why DBT Mindfulness Works

Evidence for presence-based emotional regulation

What Is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan in the 1980s, originally for borderline personality disorder. It's now used widely for emotional dysregulation, self-harm, trauma, and high-intensity emotional states.

DBT combines CBT with mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The Shodo Studio focuses specifically on the mindfulness module.

Key Finding: "DBT reduces suicidal behavior, self-injury, and psychiatric hospitalization while improving emotion regulation and quality of life."

Why Shodo as the Method?

Shodo is mindfulness in action. You cannot erase. You cannot undo. Each stroke requires complete commitment to the present moment:

DBT Skill Shodo Practice
Observe Watch the ink flow, the brush bend
One-Mindfully One stroke, nothing else exists
Non-Judgmentally Accept the stroke as it is
Radical Acceptance No erasingβ€”what's done is done
