The Eighth Studio

Taiko (太鼓)

The Craft of Resonance. In Taiko drumming, you do not just hit the drum with your arm; you hit it with your entire body (*Hara*). We use this studio to master Public Speaking, vocal presence, and the courage to take up space.

1. Don't Speak. Resonate.

Most people speak from their throat. It is thin, anxious, and easily ignored. A Taiko master plays from the *Hara* (the belly/center). The sound isn't just heard; it is felt in the listener's chest.

Public speaking is not about "words." It is about vibration. If you want to command a room, you must drop your center of gravity and project from the core.

2. Reviewing "The Pause" (Ma)

In drumming, the silence between the beats is as loud as the beat itself. Anxious speakers rush to fill the silence with "um," "ah," and speed. Powerful speakers—Taiko speakers—dare to let the silence hang. They trust the *Ma*.

3. The Protocol: Taking Space

Practice: The Wide Stance

Before you enter a meeting or stage:

  1. Stand with feet wider than shoulders (Sumo stance).
  2. Bend knees slightly. Feel the floor.
  3. Hum a low tone from your belly for 30 seconds.
  4. Claim your territory.
